Prayer & Praise
Special Prayer Request Regarding Resident Visa Application

In my recent prayer letter, I mentioned that my residence visa application was not able to be granted due to new Immigration laws in New Zealand. I stated that my present work visa is valid through April 2009 and that I would return to the USA and reapply at that time.

Since writing that letter, some advice has been given to our team that has encouraged us to make an appeal through the visa agency. So this week my teammate, Barry Smith, and I have spent hours in the offices of Immigration and the Internal Revenue Department clarifying the meaning of some terms written in small print. We have a better understanding of these new law changes. Based on the information we were given by these government departments, we believe our mission board and I have meet those qualifications. We are doing a bit more research this weekend and will write and present our appeal in the next 7 to 10 days. I have a deadline to get all my paperwork in by July 4th. It will be stretching to meet this deadline so I need your prayers.

Since we have two other families joining our team hopefully this year, it is important that we clearly understand these new laws. If an appeal can be made and residency becomes possible it will make it easier for future missionaries to join our team.

Please pray for the following things:

1. Clarity in understanding and interpreting these new laws.

2. Helpful people in Immigration and Internal Revenue Department.

3. Time for Barry Smith to research some of this information and wisdom in writing the appeal.

4. Wisdom as the visa agency presents our appeal to Immigration. We’ve been told by Immigration that the appeal will be considered more carefully if it comes from the visa agency than from us.

5. Wisdom in knowing what visa will be the best one for our team to pursue. It may be that the temporary work visa turns out to the best option. But we want to be sure.

6. That we will be a testimony to all we have contact with through this process. I’m getting lost of practice in the things that I’m teaching in my “Biblical Peacemaker” Bible Study. J

Thanks so much for your prayers. I’ll be in touch when we have a final answer.

Joyfully Serving Him,

Robin Brooks
