Hello, solemn greetings from Ecuador.
You have most likely heard about the 7.8 earthquake the rocked the coast of Ecuador Saturday evening. I've lived in Quito for 22 years and California for 21 years and have felt a number of earthquakes, but none were like what I felt Saturday night.
I thank God that I'm okay. But the tremor has left a heavy toll on the country.
Also, please pray urgently for the rescuer workers from Ecuador and many other countries who are desperately searching for those who are missing. A number were found alive today and I am confident more survivors will miraculously be found in the next days. My God hang on to them, sustain them and lead rescuers to them soon!
Since 2003, the Ecuador Summer Missions team has served in a small island community on Ecuador's northwest coast. This island is called Muisne. The epicenter of the earthquake was about an hour south of Muisne. Many people that I know and have served with had their homes destroyed. God protected the island and the surrounding community in a miraculous way as there have been no deaths reported in Muisne and only 28 people injured. However, 309 buildings (mostly homes) were destroyed and 1,104 people are in temporary shelters. Our team will be in Muisne in mid-July and it will be a very different experience than what we've had in the past.
Thank you for making it possible for me to serve here. Please take a moment right now to pray for what I mentioned above and continue to do so over the next few days. The devastation occurred in a matter of minutes, but it will take years to recover. Ecuador and its people need to know God in a personal way now, more than ever!
I need your prayer support and value your financial support. They make it possible for me to continue serving in Latin America and Asia. Thanks for walking this journey with me! If you would like to make a one-time year-end donation, please click here.
